Albert Woodfox 5th Circuit Hearing

Last July, a Federal Judge overturned Albert Woodfox's conviction. The State appealed this decision to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, and on March 3rd, 2009, the prosocution and defense each argued their sides for 20 minutes. The court will take anywhere from 1-6 months to issue their decision.

Angola 3 Action rallied supporters to the New Orleans courthouse downtown at 9am wearing "I AM ALBERT WOODFOX" t-shirts while our moving billboard took its maiden voyage, circling the courthouse until the hearing was over.

birthday invitation:

Please join us on February 19th, 2009 for Albert Woodfox's 40th birthday behind bars (34th in solitary confinement). You are invited to host an Awareness B-Day Party at your house, local bar, restaurant, school, park, or public space. Invite folks who don't know about Albert or the Angola 3. Be Creative. Be Innovative. Be Informative. You can order A3 Action items like stickers, postcards, cups, magnets, etc., download flyers and posters, maybe even share some of Robert King's Freeline candies. Ultimately, this will be an opportunity to bring people together, cultivate awareness, fundraise and show Albert Woodfox that despite being in solitary confinement at Angola, he is never alone.

So spread your parties out. Have many parties in many cities and expand your coalitions. The more parties, the more power. Additionally, Angola 3 Action is hosting a creative cake contest judged by Herman, Albert & Robert. The maker of the most creative cake will get two T-shirts ("I am Herman Wallace" & "I am Albert Woodfox"), a "Who is Herman Wallace?" screenprinted canvas totebag and a few other organizing goodies. Make a one-of-a-kind cake and post your photos on REACTION. Spread the word, inform your friends, and let them eat cake!
